Wyoming Electrician Continuing Education Guide

Wyoming master and journeyman electricians renew their license every three years, and each renewal needs proof of 16 hours of approved continuing education, at least 8 of them on the National Electrical Code. Here is how the Wyoming electrical CE rule works, which courses count and when your license expires.

16 Hours, at Least 8 on the National Electrical Code

Wyoming master and journeyman electricians must show proof of at least 16 hours of training in the National Electrical Code or in advances in the electrical industry on or before the date the license expires, and at least 8 of those 16 hours must specifically cover the National Electrical Code.

Our Wyoming electrician course spends all 16 hours on the National Electrical Code, so the NEC minimum is covered several times over.

“At least eight (8) of the required sixteen (16) hours of training shall specifically cover the National Electrical Code.”

Which Wyoming Electrical CE Courses Count

Only courses approved by the Wyoming Department of Fire Prevention and Electrical Safety count toward the 16 hours. The department approves courses on the current edition of the National Electrical Code; electrical safety courses count for up to 4 hours, and only one safety course per renewal period. Courses not on the NEC must relate to the electrical construction industry, be journeyman-upgrading classes, and cannot be apprentice training. Classroom, online and correspondence formats can all be approved.

  • National Electrical Code, current edition
  • Electrical safety: up to 4 hours, one course per renewal period
  • Other electrical-industry, journeyman-upgrading courses (no apprentice training)
“Electrical Safety Courses may be approved up to four (4) hours. Only one electrical safety course can be taken in renewal period.”

When Wyoming Electrical Licenses Expire

A Wyoming journeyman electrician license expires on January 1 in the third year after the year it was issued; a master electrician license expires on July 1 in the third year after issue. You renew by paying half of the license fee and showing your 16 hours on or before the expiration date.

Missed the date? An electrician who applies within 45 days after expiration can still renew by paying an additional $50 fee.
