Course Description
Four hours of continuing education for Texas electricians, taken online at your own pace. TDLR requires every licensed electrician to complete 4 hours each renewal year covering the National Electrical Code as adopted by the state, the state law and rules that regulate license holders, and electrical safety as defined in NFPA 70E (16 TAC 73.25). This course covers all three.
Texas law and rules: the Texas Electrical Safety and Licensing Act (Occupations Code chapter 1305), who must be licensed and the statutory exemptions, the TDLR administrative rules in 16 TAC chapter 73, license types, renewal and continuing education, and contractor advertising, vehicle signage and enforcement.
The 2026 National Electrical Code, adopted by TDLR at 16 TAC 73.100 effective September 1, 2026, applied to Texas work: conductor heat derating for attics and outdoor runs, corrosion-resistant wiring methods for the Gulf Coast, surge protection and emergency systems for storm readiness, temporary power and outdoor equipment on job sites, grounding electrodes in expansive soils and on agricultural and water systems, shock protection for pools, spas and marinas, and electric vehicle power transfer.
Electrical safety under NFPA 70E (2024 edition): shock and arc flash risk assessment, energized work practices and lockout/tagout, arc flash hazard mitigation, and personal protective equipment and insulated tools.
Each of the three modules ends with a checkpoint quiz. On completion we report your attendance to TDLR through its CE reporting system within 7 days and issue your certificate of completion showing the TDLR course number; keep it for one year as TDLR requires.
